Phone and texting
Toll-free number verification
In this article
If your BizBaby business number is toll-free, carriers need it verified before it can text customers. It's one form in three steps: Business and contact information, Business location and Messaging use case. Click Send information for verification and BizBaby sends it to Twilio, our phone carrier, for review. You get an email with the answer, and texting starts once it's approved.
Open the form
Click the gear icon at the top right, then Business Information. On the Business phone number card, click Needs verification or Start verification →. Those links appear once your business has a number. The Register link on a locked text automation or a locked Send button opens the same form. You need admin access to the business.
BizBaby picks the form from your number. A toll-free number always opens this form; a local number opens text messaging registration (A2P 10DLC) instead. If your business has no number yet, the Register links also open this form. Get your number first, see Get a new number, so the right form opens.
Fill in the three steps
- Business and contact information. Enter your business, a contact person and your EIN, then click Continue to Business location.
- Business location. Enter your business address, then click Continue to Messaging use case.
- Messaging use case. Describe the texts you send, tick the agreement and click Send information for verification.
Some businesses see a shorter first step with only Legal entity name and Website URL, and no Business location step. BizBaby sends the rest of the business details for you; click Continue to Messaging use case.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Legal entity name | Your business's legal name. |
| Website URL | Your website address without https://, which is already in front of the box. |
| Contact | First name, Last name, Email and Phone number (123-456-7890 format) of the person responsible. The answer is emailed here. |
| Registration Number | Business Registration Number: your EIN, all 9 digits, without the dash. |
| Business DBA | Optional. The name you trade under, if it differs from the legal name. |
| Address | Address line, City, State (two letters) and Postal code (five digits). address line 2 is optional. |
| Monthly volume | Estimated monthly volume: 1,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 messages. |
| Use case description | What you text customers about. BizBaby fills in a starting text; change it to match what you really send. |
| Message content | An example of a text you send. It starts with a sample that uses your business name. |
| Additional information | Anything else about how you text customers. Also filled in with a starting text you can change. |
A few choices are set for you and locked: Business Type, Business Registration Type (EIN), the issuing country (United States), Opt-in type (Verbal) and Use case categories (Customer care).
Last, tick I agree to the Terms of Service. The text under it certifies that your business is the originator of the calls and that you'll take part in traceback efforts, such as those of the US Telecom Traceback Group.
After you send it
The page shows Data has been sent for verification and Wait for a response. When Twilio answers, BizBaby emails the contact you entered, or the account owner if your form had no contact fields. The email subject is A2P Toll-free Status.
When it's approved, the page reads Registration completed successfully and your number can send texts. The Delete toll-free verification link under it removes the verification; you'd have to send the form again before texting works.
Why it gets rejected
A rejected form shows Phone number registration failed, then Error: with the reason Twilio gave, and a Change data button. What you can change depends on the problem.
| Problem | What the page opens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Several fields | Every field you filled in. | Click Change data, correct what the error names, tick the agreement and click Update verification. |
| Message content | Message content, outlined red. Messaging use case gets a red mark. | Click Change data, rewrite the sample so it matches a real text you send, tick the agreement and click Update verification. |
| Business address | The Business location step, with a red mark. | Click Change data, correct the address, tick the agreement and click Update verification. |
| Contact or other | Nothing. The fields stay locked. | Contact BizBaby support at support@bizbaby.com with the error text. |
| Can't reapply | You cannot reapply in red. | The form can't be sent again. Contact BizBaby support. |
Common problems
- Continue to Business location stays grey. Every field marked with * needs a value, the email must be a full address, the phone number needs the 123-456-7890 format and the registration number all 9 digits.
- Continue to Messaging use case stays grey. The state needs two letters and the postal code five digits.
- Send information for verification stays grey. Pick an Estimated monthly volume, keep all three text boxes filled in and tick the agreement.
- A text automation shows a lock and Off. The number isn't verified yet. Wait for the approval email, then switch it on.
