The worker cabinet: what workers see

In this article
The short answer

The Worker Cabinet is the screen your field workers get when they sign in. It shows one day at a time: the jobs, visits and appointments assigned to them, their tasks, and what they've already finished. From it they start and complete work, tick off checklists, add photos and comments, and tell the office when they couldn't finish. They only see work assigned to them.

How workers get there

Add the person in Team as a worker and assign them work. When they sign in, BizBaby opens the Worker Cabinet straight away. It's built for a phone, so most workers use it on theirs. See Add your team and choose what each person can see.

A worker sees a job, visit or appointment only once it's assigned to them, and a task only when it's assigned to them. To put work in front of someone, assign it to them. See Assign workers and dispatch.

The day at a glance

The top line reads Worker Cabinet and the date, then a greeting with the worker's first name and a count, such as "3 stops and 1 task." Under it, a strip of days lets them look at another date.

  • Next stop. A large card for the work they're on now (In progress) or the next one due (Next stop): the time, what the work is, the customer's name and address, and its project or appointment number. It says Arrival is manual · No GPS check-in: BizBaby doesn't track their location to start the work. If the work has a checklist, the card shows how many items are done and an Open checklist link.
  • Tasks need attention. If a task assigned to them is overdue, a banner says how many. Review shows just those tasks.
  • Up next. The rest of the day in time order, with a Now line, and a count such as "2 of 5 done". Filters at the top show All, Work, Tasks or History (what's been completed or canceled that day).
  • List and Calendar switch between the timeline and an hour-by-hour view of the day.

The bar at the bottom of the phone screen has Today, Schedule, Tasks and More. More opens the Full calendar.

Opening a piece of work

Tapping any item opens its details:

PartWhat the worker sees or does
CustomerThe customer's name, address and any notes on the work.
ChecklistProgress and Open checklist. A step can ask for a photo. Checklists need a plan that includes them.
Photos & filesFiles on the work. The worker can add photos from their phone.
Worker activityComments left on the work. The worker types in Tell the office what happened to add one.
ButtonsGet directions (opens Google Maps), Call customer, Start work or Complete work, and Unable to complete.

Starting and completing work

  1. When they arrive, the worker taps Start work. The work moves to In progress, and you see that in the office.
  2. When they're done, they tap Complete work and confirm. The work is marked complete and moves into History with the time.

Work can only be started from its waiting state: a job once it's approved, a visit once it's scheduled, an appointment once it's booked. It has to be started before it can be completed. A task is finished with Complete task, and also moves into History.

When the work can't be finished

Unable to complete lets the worker move on without pretending the job is done.

  1. They tap Unable to complete.
  2. They pick a Reason: Customer unavailable, Could not access property, Required parts unavailable, Unsafe conditions, Office requested reschedule or Other.
  3. They describe What happened?. Both are required.
  4. They tap Mark unable & show next.

The status of the work doesn't change. You get an alert in the office so you can reschedule or reassign it, and the worker's report and time stay in Worker activity. See Fix "worker could not complete" warnings.

Give workers what they need before they leave

Put access codes, gate notes and parts lists in the work's notes or a task's details, and attach photos. Workers see them when they open the work in the Worker Cabinet.

Common problems

  • A worker says the day is empty. The work isn't assigned to them, or it's on another date. Check the date strip, then the assignment in the office.
  • Start work is missing. The work isn't in a state that can be started yet, for example a job that isn't approved.
  • "Start this work item before marking it complete." The worker needs to tap Start work first.
  • "This item changed. Refresh the schedule and try again." Someone in the office changed the work while it was open. Reload and try again.
  • "This item is no longer assigned to you." It was reassigned to someone else.
  • "You are offline. Reconnect and try again—nothing was changed." The phone lost signal. Nothing was saved, so tap again once back online.
