Troubleshooting

My domain isn't connecting

In this article
The short answer

For your website, your domain needs exactly one A record, pointing at the BizBaby IP address shown in the Confirm Connect window. BizBaby checks for it before connecting, so a missing or extra A record stops the connection. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours, so wait and click Reconnect or Connect domain again. For a business email domain, the records are MX and CNAME instead.

Website domain

Open Website Builder from the left menu, or from gear icon → Website Builder. The Website connection card is at the top. The label next to its title shows where it stands.

LabelWhat it means
Setup neededNo domain is connected. Your site runs on its BizBaby address.
ConnectedConnected. Your domain is ready.
Connected, not reachableIt was connected, but BizBaby can't reach your site on it right now. Fix the issue listed under it and click Reconnect. The domain stays yours until you click Disconnect domain.

Your BizBaby address keeps working the whole time, so customers can still reach your site there.

What the message means

MessageWhat to do
A Record is missingBizBaby can't find an A record pointing your domain at its IP address. At the company you bought the domain from, open the DNS settings, add an A Record with the IP address from the window, TTL 3600 or the smallest it allows.
A Record ConflictsYour domain has an A record pointing somewhere else. Delete every other A record so only the BizBaby one is left.
domain does not resolveThe domain can't be found yet. Check the spelling. A domain bought recently can take up to 48 hours to be visible.
HTTPS certificate problemBizBaby couldn't set up the secure (https) certificate. Wait a while and click Reconnect. If it keeps happening, contact BizBaby support.
did not respond in time"domain did not respond in time" or "nothing is answering on that domain". The DNS change hasn't reached everyone yet. Try again later.
answered by another serverSomething other than BizBaby answers on your domain. Check that the only A record is the BizBaby one, and turn off any other website or forwarding set up for the domain.
linked to another organization"This domain is linked to another organization." A domain can serve only one business. Disconnect it there first.
doesn't look like a domain"That doesn't look like a domain name. Enter it like example.com." In the Domain you own box, type it as https://example.com.

On a plan where your own domain has a monthly fee, BizBaby asks you to add a payment method and to tick the charge in Confirm Connect before it connects.

Business email domain

An email address on your own domain connects on the Connect your domain step, opened from Continue the setup on the Business email address card in gear icon → Business Information.

  • Records are not verified yet. Add every record exactly as shown: one MX and three CNAME. Use the copy buttons. DNS changes can take a few hours. Click Verify DNS records again later.
  • Your old email stops arriving. That's expected. You replace your domain's MX records, so all email to any address at your domain arrives in BizBaby.
  • This address could not be connected. Addresses from Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and BizBaby can't be connected.
